Sunday Selections #662

Sunday Selections was originally brought to us by Kim, of Frogpondsrock, as an ongoing meme where participants could post previously unused photos languishing in their files. Huge thanks to Cie who gave me this wonderful Sunday Selections image. 

The meme was then continued by River at Drifting through life.  Sadly she has now stepped aside (though she will join us some weeks), and I have accepted the mantle.

I usually run with a theme. Some of you just might have noticed that I have a passion for colour.  There is lots of it about at the moment.  So as I so often say, come wander with me.  Or more accurately come wobble with me.  My feet and legs are significantly swollen at the moment and walking is a bigger challenge than usual.

I like this mural on the side of a local church.  I also like their stance on climate change and refugees.

New murals are popping up at one of our bus interchanges.  I hope they spread.

And in other news, please spare a thought for Lee.  Her area was hit hard by a storm on Christmas Eve and many people are still without power.  The powers that be hope to have people connected again this weekend or early next week.  I do hope that the lack of power is the worst that happened to her.

Charlotte(MotherOwl) had surgery last week.  I hope she is recovering well.  If you get the chance please stop by both of their blogs and wish them well.

I usually run with a theme.  Snippets again this week.

 

One day we got buckets of rain.  Most of the birds seem to be quite well weatherproofed.  This galah was not.

 

It was a grey day literally and metaphorically.  Himself had another appointment with his dermatologist who removed what he described as a very ugly cancer from his forehead.  I doubt he was talking about the growth's appearance.  One appointment down, several more to go.

Jazz has been having a flare up of his pancreatitis.  It wasn't responding to the medication so we got an emergency vet appointment.  They confirmed that his pancreas was acting up but also told us that he has a mass in his abdomen - strongly suspected to be cancer.  As I type we are waiting for the biopsy results.  The punk pussy (he has been shaved in a number of places) is home and very glad of it.  He is also eating well again, and does not appear to be in any pain.  Next steps will depend on the diagnosis, prognosis and how he is feeling.

There was still beauty about - for which I am thankful.

And there is beauty in the garden too.

 

Our Cootamundra wattles are bursting into bloom.

Daisies continue to flower.

There are grevilleas (much loved by many small birds and insects) coming out.

A neighbour (now deceased) gave me this Japanese Iris some years ago.  I welcome it each year and think of him.

I usually run with a theme.  We have had a lot of 'grey days' here, literally and emotionally so this week I am focusing on glorious colour.

Starting in our Central Business District.  As part of the Enlighten Festival a 'bubble display' was set up next to our Legislative Assembly.  I believe the bubbles were illuminated at night - but they were spectacular during the day too.

Here they are reflected in the windows of the Legislative Assembly - and in some of the photos you can also see the building reflected in the bubbles.

Some of them were big too - as this shot which includes some passersby shows.

 I was in town again last week and that area looks very drab without them.

Shortly after we went to the Van Gogh exhibition we saw an article that said that there was a sunflower maze.  So of course we went.  The maze was on an egg farm - situated about 15km (less than ten miles) from the city centre - which says a lot about my city.  It is the nation's capital but green spaces are never far away.

It was only a maze if you were less than four feet tall but we enjoyed it anyway.  And yes, sunflowers symbolise Ukraine to me.

We enjoyed it, the bees loved it - and I really liked the metal chooks on their gate too.
