Excuses, excuses

Soon (we hope) the smaller portion will have yet more abdominal surgery.  This will be the seventh and might even be the last.  Hysterical laughter surfaces as I typed those hopeful words.  No dates yet, but we are thinking February/March.
His sister is coming down to help me.

The house and the garden are shambolic.  I look at them and shudder.  Repairs, restoration, decluttering and tidying are desperately needed.

There is some urgent paperwork which needs to come out of the 'I will get to it' pile.

My body and my mind are misbehaving.  When I can't avoid looking at them, they also make me shudder.  I am in the midst of a serious attack of the inadequacies.

I could weep and whinge for Australia, and my psycho bitch is close enough to the surface to be able to lash out.  Which she does.

Which is a long-winded way of saying I am taking a break.

I will miss you, and I will be back when house/garden/paperwork/body/mind are a bit more under control.

  2. oh no. :( I'm sorry things are out of control right now. But I hope you receive all the rest you need, and everything works out smoothly and quickly and with much peace. Sending you loads of well wishes.

  3. Sue, please take care of yourself. I know you know how. I know that overwhelming feeling with house, paperwork etc. life is just far more demanding these days. Big Hugs xx see you soon. You will be in my thoughts.

  4. Most definitely..Take care of yourself first and foremost...Sending you best wishes!

  5. Take care dear bloggy friend, just take it quietly.
Huge sympathy re your partner's surgery. Daughter had a little infection this week and talk of hospital was mentioned by a doctor and we both went into total PTSD shaking and tears. Fortunately the doctor was clueless and some antibiotics and proper wound dressing have sorted the situation out. Love to you both xxxxx

  6. You will be missed sorely. I will have to reread some of your old posts to see who the E.C. was before I started blogging.

Will be praying for you, Sue and all those around you.

  7. take care of yourself. I will miss you. my very best to you and yours.

  8. So sorry he has to go through this again....hopefully it WILL be the last time. Take care....I'll be thinking of you.

  9. OK. I think everyone here understands. Blogging is only fun when it does not take over.

  10. Life can get in the way can't it - I've been there done that. Come to think of it I have some 'need to be seen to papers' as well - thank you for the reminder.
Looking forward to your next post - when you come back rested and full of vim and vigor!
    Take care

  11. Please remember to take care of yourself amongst all the trials and tribulations, dear EC. I am glad you are doing what you must for yourself insofar as your blogging obligations are concerned. I will be mighty happy when you pop up in my Reader, whenever that might be. Sending you lots and lots of love.

  12. I sincerely hope you don't think you are alone ...a shambolic house and garden (though my garden now sits under 18 inches of snow and ice in freezing temperatures), piles of urgent paperwork and a misbehaving mind are modus operandi around here. I think often of taking a break, but then I wouldn't have an excuse for not cleaning the clutter and shuffling through the urgent paperwork so I just blog on. So, you, my dear, are the wise one and will be breathing a sigh of relief while I still sit here scratching my head. Great news that the (possibly) last surgery for SP is in the offing ... I wish you both well because I know it is hard on both of you. And, as this is the end of them ... I pray for a happy ending. You will be missed and I will look forward to your return. Stay well, Sue ... and know that you are not alone.

  13. From what you are saying about the house and the garden I should take a break too.

I hope you feel better soon and enjoy your blogging break. It will do you good, but I too will miss you.

    ReplyDelete
  14. I should think you would both be laughing hysterically. I hope this surgery isn't as bad as the last one.

I'll miss you. You can always email me, you know, and I would like it very much if you did.

  15. We will miss you, too, EC...but we all understand and empathise., I'm sure.

However, I'm still going to say it...hurry back...or I'll get cranky...and you know what cranky does! ;)

Take good care...both you and the Small Portion. Best thoughts go your way. :)

  16. Take 5, 10, as long as you need, you know you'll be missed, but like me, you know when you have to go for a while too. Chuck the mug whenever you need to, it won't smash remember *smiles, hugs, hugs some more xxx

  18. Oh no ... I am sorry to hear this. But it appears that much pulling-out-of-hair has ensued, so it is perfectly reasonable to sign out for a while. Take a deep breath and all that rubbish. Or alternatively, I've found a stiff drink helps to dull the pain from time to time. Just a thought ...

Take care of 'you' and yours. Catcha on the flip side, EC xox

    ReplyDelete
  19. Thinking of you EC. Keep taking pleasure in all the little things around you, I hope some sweet birds visit your garden where they will much appreciate the shambles. Take care xo

  20. Will miss you. Good luck.

  21. I wish I had the buckeroos to grab a flight down there. I LOVE to clean, do house work, weed, all those kinds of things. Two days maybe, I could get a ton done, then I'd go off on a walkabout. Wish wish wish, and it won't happen, so...wishing you best of luck in dealing with all that crap. What doesn't need done can wait, forever.

  22. Snap! I am absolutely depressed with my house/garden, quarterly tax statement, replying to some 50 condolences and all the things I just can't bother to make major decisions about and state of health. Must be the weather . . . Hope your dear visitor does not stay long . . .

    ReplyDelete
  23. Take care of yourselves, be well. All the best wishes follow SP through the surgery, and you through the dust caps. Although personally I would let the dust accumulate until fall. Don't be hasty. But keep feeding the birds and the cats. OK, I'm through now. Both of you, take care, do well. xxoo

  24. We all have those piles that we know are urgent, but yet, we try to ignore. Wishing you well, EC, and remember, it the only the very important things that need to be done, many other things that we think are in shambles, can be left and the world will still go on. Take care, friend, and tend to what you need to at this time.

  25. Will miss you too. Take care!

  26. Hey, I completely understand - sending you good thoughts! And please email me your address. :)

I wrote you back when you emailed months ago but don't know if you got it...ml_madison@yahoo.com.

  27. You know what, Ms EC? I LOVE how you always still have your sense of humor, no matter what craziness is going on around you and to you. I literally laughed out loud when I read " Hysterical laughter surfaces as I typed those hopeful words." I find it unbelievable that the smaller portion has endured so many surgeries....as you have right along with him, but in a different and sometimes worse way. And I remember the "help" your sister-in-law brings....Is there a way you can refuse her help?? Big hugs to you. I'll be thinking of you, and please e-mail if you want!

    ReplyDelete
  28. Dear EC, take care of yourself and SP. All else is secondary. Wishing you both all the best, and hoping for a good result. I will be thinking of you daily.

    ReplyDelete
  29. You are not alone. I relate to you more than you probably would believe. You have much on your plate. You will prioritize, and eat that whale one bite at a time. Don't waste energy beating yourself up. Treats of different sorts can really help, Dear.

  30. May it be successful and the last needed for it granting the health deserved. Do take care, of yourself as well as the smaller portion. We love you and will miss you, too, but we'll be around whenever you come back.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Sometimes something has to give. I too had to take a break during the last few months because of health issues, which also meant not following many blogs. It was grand to get back to reading yours. It will be lovely when you come back. We will be here waiting. Very best wishes for the cleanup and for Short Portion's operation.

    ReplyDelete
  32. I'm sorry to hear that you are plowing through a Slough of Despond. Be gentle with yourself, above all, don't knock yourself out with the housework and stuff; it's all ephemeral really. Best wishes to The Smaller Portion too.

    ReplyDelete
  33. A break sounds like a fine idea, take all the time you need. I hope enough cooler weather arrives to get the garden at least a little sorted. Good luck with the smaller portion's surgery, i really hope everything goes well with that this time.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Tried to find a contact email address, but could not, so here I will say, thanks for your comments on my blog. I hope you return to blog world in the future.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Now where is Samantha Stephens and her magic "Bewitched" touch when housework needs doing? Wouldn't that be nice...

Seriously, I can fully understand your need to step away for a while as life starts to feel overwhelming. Take as much time as you need to get back in some kind of equilibrium. I hope it doesn't take too long as quite selfishly I'll miss you. Yes, it's always about ME! ME! ME!

And remember we'll hold you to the promise of it being a break, not something more Lawrence Oates in character.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I'm sorry! Take a break and take care of yourself.

    ReplyDelete
  37. And we will be here for you while you take a much needed break. I'm so sorry it's all piling up at once for you. Maybe by the time your "help" arrives, it will have cooled down enough for you to spend long hours ALONE in the garden. :)

    ReplyDelete
  38. We'll miss you! Take care, you and the SP. XOXO

    ReplyDelete
  39. I don't understand why a little thing like house/garden/paperwork/body/mind would cause you any consternation. I'm kidding, of course.

You will be greatly missed while you're away and your return will be an occasion of great rejoicing. Just what am I supposed to do for bird pictures in the meantime?

My thoughts and best wishes for you and the SP will be coming your way daily until we hear that you both are feeling better. Just don't be gone too long as I will be 73 in another month and can't wait forever.

    Cheers.

  40. I can understand that and I wish you peace during this break. Come by when you can - I love it when you visit.

  46. Hi Sue,

The smaller portion and your good self, really need to take some time away from it all. Totally understandable that you would like a break from this. Your mental and physical well being is the priority, my dear friend.

I'm in the background, if you wish to chat.

    In kindness,

    Gary

  48. My hiking coach gave me good advice that applies broadly when on rough terrain -- physical, or otherwise. "Small, mindful steps." Hoping you can tackle small projects to regain your confidence, and work through the piles... Take care! We'll be here when you come back! Xoxo

  49. I will miss you, too, but sometimes a break is just what we need. Take all the time you need - there are more important things in the world than blogging (although we love it, don't we?).

    ReplyDelete
  50. I sincerely hope the surgery is a success and this will indeed be the last time the SP has to go under the knife.
About your mind and body. Just an hour or so before reading this post I was saying to Phil that I just wasn't coping with anything, the summer, the house or even deciding what to have for dinner. In hot weather like ours what is there to have except salads anyway? Just don't want to bother thinking about it!!
His response was to say he wished he could think of somewhere to take me but when you feel this way do you really feel like going anywhere?
You have so many more problems than we do but I can understand how down you can get at times. I always admire just how well you do cope.
Have a wonderful break. Get the SP really well again and with the advent of cooler weather let's hope everything will once again be looking up for both of you. Positive thoughts are with you are all times.

  51. Dear EC, having been off the air for a bit, I have only just read this. I hope all goes well with the surgery, and all will be healed. I will try to keep in touch, to maintain what feels to me like the meeting of true minds. Love, M

  54. when i noticed your absent pre-dawn sunday morning post i wondered what was up!
i'll send positive energy and hope you soon feel rejuvenated.

i think lots of people could weep for Australia but there are people who care and maybe one day our voices will be heard again. you know the asylum seeker resource centre in melbourne received a donation of $25 000 this week? thats cause for hope!

    love to you

  55. Enjoy your time, take however long you needs

  56. I really do hope that your troubles go away quickly. I will miss your Sunday posts. Take as long as you need, you deserve this break.

    Greetings from London.

  57. Wow, Sue, some things going on. I wish you the best, the absolute best. Of all the helping of others you've done, it only stands to reason you should be helped to. Take care xx N'n.

  58. Sending you magic coping powers. I hope everything goes kindly with you - as kindly as possible.

  59. Wishing the SP a successful LAST surgery. Wishing you some rest and relaxation. Let your sis-in-law do as much as she wants to help you. Funny; last summer my garden fried too. It was much warmer and drier than usual. I wonder if it's a cycle of some kind? Today I was passing a neighbor's house-I've always admired his garden. He was trying to get rid of moss. We chatted about gardens and how they are never-ending. He shrugged and said, "Nothing's perfect except God." So let it go, my friend; your garden may be all dried up now; but there is always another season...in gardening and in life. :)

  60. Hope all will sort itself out. Have a refreshing break!

  61. AGHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!! AAAAAGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Of course you need a break. We'll miss you, but I desperately hope you'll be able to take care of yourself. Somehow. (Yeah….."hysterical laughter"….) Sigh. All digits tightly crossed for you.

    ReplyDelete
  62. I've tried taking a break too, to pack up, move house, ship out family's belongings. But how I missed blogging, especially with most of family / friends living overseas.

I hope you don't over do the do, as we say here...remember to rest, drink lots of water, or you'll get super-exhausted like what happened to me.

See you as soon as you're done :-)

    ReplyDelete
  63. Take good care of yourself and the Smaller Portion. Enjoy your break, and be productive. And in the wee small hours of the morning, give the Psycho Bitch a hefty glass of wine and let her rant herself to sleep :)
    Hugs, my dear.

  64. WAIT JUST A DAMN MINUTE. You have me put your blog on my sidebar just so you can disappear? Uh huh. Ain't gonna happen. I know where you live and.......ah hell. I'm not going to Australia just to beat you up.

    ReplyDelete
  71. Dear EC, as someone who takes lots of breaks, I'm encouraging you to be good to yourself, gracious, and take all the time you need so that you don't feel at sixes and sevens about all the parts of your life. When blogging begins to feel like a burden. A have-to-do thing. Then you need to take time off and simply attend to the other things that are niggling your mind. See you whenever you return. Peace.

  72. Missing you already :-) Hope the surgery goes well. Some lovely comments above which shows how highly you are regarded. All the best. Take your time - we'll still be here when you come back :-)
