Sunday Selections was originally brought to us by Kim, of Frogpondsrock, as an ongoing meme where participants could post previously unused photos languishing in their files.
Huge thanks to Cie who gave me this wonderful Sunday Selections image.
The meme was then continued by River at Drifting through life. Sadly she has now stepped aside (though she will join us some weeks), and I have accepted the mantle.
The rules are so simple as to be almost non-existent. Post some photos under the title Sunday Selections and link back to me. Clicking on any of the photos will make them embiggen.
I usually run with a theme. We had some blissful rain this week. Pain and insomnia often get me up early. On Friday I was looking outside just after first light and saw that autumnal colours were starting to 'pop'.
I detect a Canadian connection here...
It wasn't raining when I started walking but it was windy and a tad chilly. Before I got home again I had been rained on and sleeted on but I was smiling.
It might be Autumn, but parts of the garden are a tad confused. Dandelions bloom all year round, but the anenomes and the paper white jonquils should not be blooming for months... I hope that all of you find joy and colour in your week. Stay well, stay safe.
A lovely walk you took us on around your neighborhood, thank you so much! All your photos were a delight for the eyes. Loved the plush animals and that sign, gorgeous flowers and plants. To you and everyone out there, stay safe and fill your hearts with hope that float.

ReplyDeleteAndrew R. Scott: We are in one of the colder areas of Australia. Winter minimums are usually in the minus range (somewhere between -3 and -8) and maximums in winter can often be measured with a single digit.
DeleteThat said we also usually have sunshine which takes the edge from the cold. And as a bonus, when temperatures dip to -7 or or -8, I will be out in in blowing bubbles and freezing them. Mad woman with camera will certainly be involved.

ReplyDeleteAutumn colors are always so spectacular band your photos are beautiful but I'm in no rush for Autumn yet as I'm waiting for warmer temperature and some blooms. Everything is still looking a bit gloomy but it won't be long.

Julia: I don't think the beaver could chop down the aluminium light pole - but perhaps he has special powers. It was lovely to see him though (and for some reason I am sure he is male). You can keep the warmer weather and I hope you do get sunshine and blooms soon.

DeleteI've just come in from a lovely walk in the rain - no wind, just well-behaved and mostly light showers, and not at all cold. I love your beautiful leaves, and the teddies and their friends, especially the moose. My Zygocactus plants are all blooming furiously, so they're confused too (although calling them Christmas cactus in the Southern Hemisphere,as some people do, is just daft).

Alexia: It is definitely cooling down here (and some like my partner claim it is cold). Our zygocactus have had the odd bloom but they DO flower best around Christmas. I am very glad you enjoyed your walk, and hope your week is lovely.

DeleteAlexia: They do. However our Orchid cactus (Epiphyllum Cacti) which I have heard called Christmas Cactus may or may not flower at that time. Nature seems to have her own rules.

ReplyDeleteJoanne: Yay indeed, but they 'should' be blooming in your garden not mine. There will be another anemone out today. I don't think the beaver was taking a poo, though if I had been tied to a pole in the wind and rain I would be pissed off at a minimum.

kylie: The beaver is special isn't he? I do hope that his sojourn in the wet doesn't ruin him. It is difficult to see most of our windows on the front of the house too. We are however seeing more people walking the street than I can remember.

The ice crystals on the dandelion look so delicate. I love the pink tree near the beginning and all the teddies made me smile quite a lot. Love the moose :) and that happy sign with the rainbow.

Margaret D: Autumn is one of my favourite seasons. You are right that the bears have us on our toes. Himself had driven round the block later the day before and told me that there was only one new bear. He was wrong, and I like that walking revealled them to me.

You know that sign reminds me that it is so true that we are all in this together. It gives me a perverse sort of comfort knowing that whatever is affecting us due to this virus is similarly influencing the lives of others all around the world. There is a sort of solidarity in that. Perhaps this will help to move humanity towards a greater acceptance of our differences; enjoyment and appreciation of them in fact, and help us move towards what joins us together, and focus less on the superficial differences that have done so much to tear us apart. Stay well, stay safe, Sue. We all need your wisdom.

My Granddaughter would love all the soft animals in windows and gardens. Shame they are wet but I can't imagine anyone in Australia complaining about cooler weather and rain at the moment.

DeleteYour autumn colours are starting to show. My mother always called them "autumn tints". That frosty dandelion is lovely. Actually I like dandelions, they are such a sunny colour, but they are definitely treated as a noxious weed that had to be eradicated. Too bad as I think they are very pretty.

Himself does his best to eradicate dandelions but fails. I agree with you about their sunny colour and the seed heads bring back childhood memories of blowing on the clocks...

ReplyDeleteJo: I have learned (the hard way) that I can 'sometimes' walk the pain off (or at least it distracts me). It would undoubtedly be very different if I shared your type of pain. Our dandelions bloom all year and it the frigid beauty of winter they are a lovely splash of colour.

DeleteDear EC, I'm getting used to increased blurriness, but I am so eager to see the specialist (Dr. Ann) on Friday, May 22, to see if my vision is decreasing and/or more damage has been done to the optic nerves that were already "seriously, and irreparably" damaged in 2015. Perhaps all I need are new glasses. That is, a new prescription. Wouldn't that be a wonder! Peace.
