Sunday Selections was originally brought to us by Kim, of Frogpondsrock, as an ongoing meme where participants could post previously unused photos languishing in their files.
Huge thanks to Cie who gave me this wonderful Sunday Selections image.
The meme was then continued by River at Drifting through life. Sadly she has now stepped aside (though she will join us some weeks), and I have accepted the mantle.
The rules are so simple as to be almost non-existent. Post some photos under the title Sunday Selections and link back to me. Clicking on any of the photos will make them embiggen.
I usually run with a theme. We had some blissful rain this week. Pain and insomnia often get me up early. On Friday I was looking outside just after first light and saw that autumnal colours were starting to 'pop'.
It wasn't raining so I thought I would improve the shining hour and walk the block, and continue the 'Teddy Bear Trail'. So, as I so often say, come walk with me...
These bears and the moose and the otter in the next shots were sodden - but still out there doing their smile producing job.
I detect a Canadian connection here...
It wasn't raining when I started walking but it was windy and a tad chilly. Before I got home again I had been rained on and sleeted on but I was smiling.
It might be Autumn, but parts of the garden are a tad confused. Dandelions bloom all year round, but the anenomes and the paper white jonquils should not be blooming for months... I hope that all of you find joy and colour in your week. Stay well, stay safe.
And yes, I think those are ice crystals on the dandelion.
A lovely walk you took us on around your neighborhood, thank you so much! All your photos were a delight for the eyes. Loved the plush animals and that sign, gorgeous flowers and plants. To you and everyone out there, stay safe and fill your hearts with hope that float.
ReplyDeleteDeniseinVA: Hope that floats is a wonderful concept isn't it? Thank you.
DeleteOh, I love the dandelion with ice crystals! All the photos are so pretty. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteCharlotte (MotherOwl): Thank you. I love it too, and I am already thinking of freezing bubbles. Not yet, but hopefully not too far away. I may of course be one of a very select group hoping for that sort of weather.
DeleteThat last photo is spectacular. Autumn has put on her best garments for you!
ReplyDeleteMarie Smith: I adore autumn and the arboreal firework display. We have been so dry that I wondered if we would get colour this year - and we did. Yay.
DeleteDear EC
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing the joy - both of the teddy trail and of nature. I agree, the dandelion photo is amazing!
Best wishes and stay safe
Ellie
Ellie Foster: I am always happy to share the joy. Always.
DeleteMade me smile. Thanks!
ReplyDeletee: Good. You need some smiles.
DeleteSmiles here, too, after joining you on that leisurely stroll. I'm glad I went along with you...and that you invited me to do so! :)
ReplyDeleteKeep warm, EC...and dry. I've noted on the weather reports how much the temperatures have dropped down your way. Cooler weather up here, too...but not as chilly as you're experiencing, of course. Take good care...have yourself a safe and healthy week...rug up! Cuddles to Jazz. Remy and Shama send their miaows! :)
Lee: The last few days have been quite chilly. I suspect that if the clouds had blown away there would have been snow to see.
DeleteIt was a very leisurely stroll(with regular photo stops). I hope that you and your furry overlords have a wonderful (and safe and comfortable) week.
E.C., the colors are all so beautiful. Love the stuffed animals. Thanks for bringing a smile to my face today. Take care and stay safe, my friend.
ReplyDeleteMason Canyon: I am very, very glad to share smiles. I hope that you too can stay safe and well.
DeleteThanks for passing Spring round to me. How cold does it get in your part of Australia in winter? Ice in Australia always surprises me.
ReplyDeleteAndrew R. Scott: We are in one of the colder areas of Australia. Winter minimums are usually in the minus range (somewhere between -3 and -8) and maximums in winter can often be measured with a single digit.
DeleteThat said we also usually have sunshine which takes the edge from the cold. And as a bonus, when temperatures dip to -7 or or -8, I will be out in in blowing bubbles and freezing them. Mad woman with camera will certainly be involved.
So many stuffed animals, which is great!
ReplyDeleteAs spring explodes here, it's wild to see your leaves falling.
Alex J. Cavanaugh: Just at the moment we are celebrating spring AND autumn. Which is weird.
DeletePretty garden, and your teddy bears, they are funny. I love the rainbow, special time.
ReplyDeleteBob Bushell: The rainbow is next to the house in our street, not far away from us, and I loved it. I hope some of the poor wet stuffed animals can dry out...
DeleteYay the the Canadian Beaver on your walk. It's a good thing he's tied to the tree otherwise he would chop it down, lol.
ReplyDeleteAutumn colors are always so spectacular band your photos are beautiful but I'm in no rush for Autumn yet as I'm waiting for warmer temperature and some blooms. Everything is still looking a bit gloomy but it won't be long.
Stay well and happy.
Hugs, Julia
Julia: I don't think the beaver could chop down the aluminium light pole - but perhaps he has special powers. It was lovely to see him though (and for some reason I am sure he is male). You can keep the warmer weather and I hope you do get sunshine and blooms soon.
DeleteBuona domenica.
ReplyDeleteGiancarlo: Thank you - and to you.
DeleteA lovely walk it was too under moody skies with much nature, hope and happiness.
ReplyDeleteAndrew: I thought so too. It was early. It was chilly. It was intermittently damp, and it most definitely WAS lovely.
DeleteOh, that was beautiful! My photos from my walk around the block will be posted soon, i'll link when i have it.
ReplyDeletemessymimi: I am glad you enjoyed it - and look forward to seeing your blockie (an orstrayan expression which describes going round the block) a little later in the day.
DeleteI've just come in from a lovely walk in the rain - no wind, just well-behaved and mostly light showers, and not at all cold. I love your beautiful leaves, and the teddies and their friends, especially the moose. My Zygocactus plants are all blooming furiously, so they're confused too (although calling them Christmas cactus in the Southern Hemisphere,as some people do, is just daft).
ReplyDeleteI hope you have a great week, EC, and that the weather is kind to you.
Alexia: It is definitely cooling down here (and some like my partner claim it is cold). Our zygocactus have had the odd bloom but they DO flower best around Christmas. I am very glad you enjoyed your walk, and hope your week is lovely.
DeleteDo they really? mine have always flowered in mid-winter! I take back my 'daft' comment.
DeleteAlexia: They do. However our Orchid cactus (Epiphyllum Cacti) which I have heard called Christmas Cactus may or may not flower at that time. Nature seems to have her own rules.
DeleteLove the read leaves.
ReplyDeleteJamie Ghione: Thank you.
DeleteI mean red
ReplyDeleteJamie Ghione: Not a problem. I am always pleased to see that others suffer from dyslexic fingers.
DeleteYay anemones and paper whites. I like all the displays to cheer the spirit along your path. Was that beaver taking a poo?
ReplyDeleteJoanne: Yay indeed, but they 'should' be blooming in your garden not mine. There will be another anemone out today. I don't think the beaver was taking a poo, though if I had been tied to a pole in the wind and rain I would be pissed off at a minimum.
DeleteI really love the soft toys, especially the beaver.
ReplyDeleteI would be delighted to display some here but we're in a cul de sac nobody walks down and honestly, the place is such a forest the windows are all but invisible.
I hope you have a lovely week
kylie: The beaver is special isn't he? I do hope that his sojourn in the wet doesn't ruin him. It is difficult to see most of our windows on the front of the house too. We are however seeing more people walking the street than I can remember.
DeleteBeautiful autumn colours coming into your blog. Its heart warming when communities come together and show support with a theme, be it teddy bears or any soft toy. I am in Malaysia and we have been in partial lock down for 45 days already. Will be allowed to walk out starting only tomorrow.
ReplyDeletekestrel: Welcome and thank you (I love your blog name and photo). Our lockdown has been fairly soft - we have always been able to go out for a walk so long as we keep our distance from others. I hope you enjoy your relative freedom.
DeleteThe red tree is pretty. There's no one even pretending we're in this together here. You know America, everyone for themselves. Anyhow, that is sure how it seems. Sleet eh? I hope you had a raincoat?
ReplyDeleteStrayer: Mostly we are behaving better as a community than we usually do. Mostly. With luck it will become a habit.
DeleteNo raincoat. I really thought I could finish the walk before it rained (and didn't realise it would sleet).
The ice crystals on the dandelion look so delicate. I love the pink tree near the beginning and all the teddies made me smile quite a lot. Love the moose :) and that happy sign with the rainbow.
ReplyDeleteRiver: I was blown away by those crystals. It really was a lovely, happy walk despite the gloomy weather.
DeleteLoving your blooms and "stuffies". Sat well.
ReplyDeleteKaren: I am glad. They sat very well with me too.
DeleteAutumn leaves so pretty, always a pleasure to see.
ReplyDeleteThe bears etc in the windows look charming and definitely has one on their toes looking for them in windows and elsewhere.
Stay safe.
Margaret D: Autumn is one of my favourite seasons. You are right that the bears have us on our toes. Himself had driven round the block later the day before and told me that there was only one new bear. He was wrong, and I like that walking revealled them to me.
DeleteThe ice crystals ...that is a postcard-worthy shot! All are lovely, but that's a cracker.
ReplyDeleteAnd was that rooster the same one that topped the book swap shelf that used to be on your street?
dinahmow: I was pleased with that shot. It came out well (even if I did have to get down on my knees to take it).
DeleteYou have a good eye. That is indeed the very same rooster. I am a bit sad that the library has gone though.
One thing is made clear by your multitudinous commenters-- Your work is loved.
ReplyDeleteBill: Or they are kind people...
DeleteHi EC - delightful shots ... I love the colours of Autumn ... though am happy at the moment to be the other end of the world and seeing the greening. I've seen rainbows in the windows ... but the decorating of the gardens not so much - probably not in the right area (type of houses). Take care and enjoy the coming of more frosty spectacles ... I rather like the phrase 'hope floats' ... stay safe - Hilary
ReplyDeleteHilary Melton-Butcher: Isn't hope floats a wonderful phrase - uplifting even.
DeleteI was a bit surprised at just how many teddy bears/stuffed animals were outside (particularly given a very wet few days).
I really like spring as well - and am grateful that the magic of the internet gives me both simultaneously.
Stay safe, stay well.
Thanks for taking me on your lovely morning walk. The rain has helped the gardens too and is very welcome here.
ReplyDeleteRosie: The Bureau of Meteorology is talking about a wet winter. The garden and I hope they are right (though I am not going to hold my breath).
DeleteGreat photos. Beautiful autumn
ReplyDeleteVicky Cahyagi: Welcome and thank you. I am a big, big fan of autumn.
DeleteSuch a pleasure to "walk" with you, as always.😊😊
ReplyDeleteIt is stunningly beautiful where you live, and your guided walks are so eagerly anticipated...in fact, are the highlight of my Sundays.😊😊 So thank you so much!!
I am troubled by pain and insomnia too, so I totally understand and sympathize with you. I do most of my writing throughout the night when I am unable to sleep. If I hadn't had that to occupy my mind...then I think I'd have gone insane long ago! Lol
Stay safe, my dear friend...and never stop smiling!😊😊
Sending you much love and hugs ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Ygraine: Pain and insomnia are sucky beast aren't they? Except that my version gives me the beauty of dawn. It was a soft dawn this morning, but no less lovely for that.
DeleteStay well and safe. And please keep writing. I am always amazed at your creativity
You know that sign reminds me that it is so true that we are all in this together. It gives me a perverse sort of comfort knowing that whatever is affecting us due to this virus is similarly influencing the lives of others all around the world. There is a sort of solidarity in that. Perhaps this will help to move humanity towards a greater acceptance of our differences; enjoyment and appreciation of them in fact, and help us move towards what joins us together, and focus less on the superficial differences that have done so much to tear us apart. Stay well, stay safe, Sue. We all need your wisdom.
ReplyDeleteDavid M. Gascoigne: We are indeed all in this together. It wasn't the way I had hoped to see world unity, but I do hope that we can continue to focus on the important things and dismiss the trivialities of colour, religion, race. I also hope that the natural world (which has benefited from our absence) is more respected and cherished. And yes, I am a dreamer.
DeleteI hope that you and Miriam are also able to stay well, stay safe, and to continue to find the beauty in life.
Hello Sue, thanks for these cute pictures. As David (previous comment) says the posters and positive messages give us a sense of solidarity against the enemy which has invaded every country and attacked and affected every nation in the world. Thanks for always visiting my blog posts. Be safe and keep well. Jo (South Africa)
ReplyDeleteJo: Thank you. I do hope that we learn from this. I hope it rather a lot.
DeleteI hope that you and your furry family stay safe too.
My Granddaughter would love all the soft animals in windows and gardens. Shame they are wet but I can't imagine anyone in Australia complaining about cooler weather and rain at the moment.
ReplyDeleteLL Cool Joe: I am certainly NOT complaining about cooler weather and rain. Anyone who is has a very, very short memory.
DeleteWe have had a couple of drier days to I hope the valiant outside stuffed animals are drying out. I may go and check on them later...
Oh, so cute! Beautiful virtual walk☺
ReplyDeleteNatalia: I am glad that you enjoyed walking with me. Very glad.
DeleteWhat a treat to virtually accompany you on your walk. Thank you so much for bringing us along. Love the Teddys and the flowers.
ReplyDeleteMyrna R.: It is dry today. Cool yes, but the promise is for a sunny day. Later (after I have played in the garden) I hope to walk further afield. Stay well, stay safe.
DeleteI love that pretty window filled with critters that make me smile. Such an uplifting post. Thank you, dear friend, and I hope you are staying safe.
ReplyDeleteDJan: I believe that the bears and animals were designed to make children feel happier, but this adult loved them too. I hope that the near neighbour keeps their crowded window even after this crisis is over. I do hope you can find a way to be at peace with the changes to your life. Hugs.
DeleteLovely walk with lovely pictures. Keep them coming.
ReplyDeletegigi-hawaii: Thank you. You may be sorry you said that.
DeleteLovely photos! Especially the dandelion.
ReplyDeleteDamyanti: Thank you. There are always dandelions here, and sometimes I see their beauty...
DeleteI love the flower pictures, you got some really good ones!
ReplyDeleteElizabeth Post. Thank you.
DeleteWow, that last picture of ice crystals on the dandelion is awesome. You were really able to get a great up close picture there. I love the teddy bears.
ReplyDeleteMary Kirkland: Thank you. I got down on the ground to take that photo (and getting up again is not easy). I was very pleased that the photo came out so well.
DeleteThe dandelion looks gorgeous! Looks and sounds like you had a great walk. Brisk walks can be great and the rain and sleet didn't ruin it- yay! Fall is my favorite- love the colors. Seeing lots of color here- as spring is blooming everywhere. :)
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful week. Stay safe!
~Jess
DMS ~Jess: Autumn is one of my favourite seasons too, though Spring is close behind it. Enjoy the colour bursting out for you - and stay safe and well.
DeleteWhat an amazing shot of the dandelion! And your fall colours are so pretty. The beaver gave me a chuckle, too - you're right, there must be a Canadian somewhere in the mix! :-)
ReplyDeleteDiane Henders: Yet another thing that the dread virus has brought me. I had no idea that there were stuffed animal loving Canadians in the street.
DeleteI love seeing all of the stuffed animals! My favs are the moose and otter. Thank you for doing the walk-around and sharing your journeys with the rest of us. Hugs to you and scritches to Jazz.
ReplyDeleteRiver Fairchild: The moose and the beaver were pretty special weren't they? And completely unexpected. I am glad that blogger finally allowed you to comment - and thanks for persevering. Hugs to you too (and a begrudging thank you from Jazz).
DeleteThe stuffed animals are too cute. 😀
ReplyDeleteThe Happy Whisk: They are aren't they? And I love seing just how many houses have been hiding their stuffed animal collection.
DeleteI loved seeing all your photos!
ReplyDeleteNas: Thank you. I enjoyed taking them.
DeleteEC, ti auguro un sereno inizio settimana.
ReplyDeleteGiancarlo: Thank you. And to you - a peaceful AND a healthy, happy week.
DeleteI love your moody skies and red autumn colour, but even more than those I am blown away by that dandelion head photo. What an amazing shot that is.
ReplyDeleteOur dandelions have just popped out over the past week. They are a much needed bit of colour in what has been a long, slow spring here.
Wishing you a good and safe week, my friend.
jenny_o: Many thanks. I am so very glad that I was able to capture some of the beauty of the dandelion head. If I was a better gardener it wouldn't have flowered (much less gone to seed and had those seeds dispersed) but it made me smile - as I can well understand the sunny blooms do for you.
DeleteTake care.
What an uplifting walk, E.C.! Hope floats, for sure. xx
ReplyDeleteBea: It was. The weather wasn't kind, but the kindness, the beauty and the hope expressed in the street displays did have me floating. High.
DeleteAutumn is by far my favourite season and thanks to your photos I get to enjoy a double dose. Thank you for that and for everything else.
ReplyDeleteNilanjana Bose: It is my pleasure.
DeleteNot only do we get to experience your fantastic scenery pictures, but the creativity of all the neighbors. Quite fun to see! Hugs, RO
ReplyDeleteRO: I was fascinated by the displays in some windows and yards. It made me think about the inhabitants differently too. Hugs to you too.
DeleteYour autumn colours are starting to show. My mother always called them "autumn tints". That frosty dandelion is lovely. Actually I like dandelions, they are such a sunny colour, but they are definitely treated as a noxious weed that had to be eradicated. Too bad as I think they are very pretty.
ReplyDeleteShammickite: I think your mother was understating it - in the very best autumns those colours blaze. A short-lived fiery beauty which I think of as arboreal fireworks. Himself does his best to eradicate dandelions but fails. I agree with you about their sunny colour and the seed heads bring back childhood memories of blowing on the clocks...
DeleteSorry to be later. That dandelion is so pretty. Love seeing the stuffies (love that word) and autumn colours are always so pretty. I am glad that despite pain you can walk around your neighbourhood. Wish I could. Oh, I like dandelions too, the gold mixed in with the green in spring is absolutely beautiful.
ReplyDeleteJo: I have learned (the hard way) that I can 'sometimes' walk the pain off (or at least it distracts me). It would undoubtedly be very different if I shared your type of pain. Our dandelions bloom all year and it the frigid beauty of winter they are a lovely splash of colour.
DeleteThank you so much, EC, for sharing your walk! We don't have much color during autumn in Florida so it was great to see yours.
ReplyDeleteThe flowers fit right in with our spring season up here!
You said: "I hope that all of you find joy and colour in your week."
Thanks to your post - we just did. :)
Wally Jones: I am confused by the early spring display here (and there is more coming on). I do hope we get a second spring later - as you enter into autumn. I am also very grateful to live in a place which has four distinct seasons (though I dislike summer). Judging by the beauty of your last post you will always have joy and colour in your life - which is as it should be.
DeleteDear EC, because of balance problems due to Meniere's and vision, I often don't get a walk in, so thanks for taking me on this stroll with you. The stuffed animals are so welcoming. I think I really would like Australia. You've made it seem so welcoming. And it's dedication to lightheartedness in museums and fairs so intrigues me. Peace.
ReplyDeleteDee: As a nation we really don't do solemnity or seriousness very well. Which suits my frivolous mind. I hope that as you adhere to your medico's strict instructions your eyes continue to improve.
DeleteDear EC, I'm getting used to increased blurriness, but I am so eager to see the specialist (Dr. Ann) on Friday, May 22, to see if my vision is decreasing and/or more damage has been done to the optic nerves that were already "seriously, and irreparably" damaged in 2015. Perhaps all I need are new glasses. That is, a new prescription. Wouldn't that be a wonder! Peace.
DeleteDee: I really, really hope that new glasses are a help. Fingers and toes crossed. Stay safe, stay well.
DeleteOh so cute photos
ReplyDeletexx
Sakuranko: Welcome and thank you.
DeleteLove and beauty are abloom.
ReplyDeleteThank you, sweet lady.
Be well.
Rawknrobyn: I hope that beauty and love continue to bloom - world wide.
DeleteStay safe, stay well.
I so enjoyed our walk. Thanks for letting us tag along.
ReplyDeleteThat ice crystal photo is breathtaking.
Soooo glad you are getting rain.
Hugs
Sandra: I am very happy to have your company on my walk. And yes, the rain was lovely. The garden and I revelled in it. Jazz did not - and made me pay for the inclemency of the outside world. Safe hugs to you too.
DeleteLovely photos and I need to go out for walks more.
ReplyDeleteKelly Steel: Thank you. Walking and swimming (which is haven't done in ages) are my only forms of exercise (other than gardening).
DeleteThat first picture is so striking. Absolutely gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteYOU stay safe. Be healthy.
Hugs
Sandra Cox: Thank you. I will stay safe. You too. And that is an order not a request.
DeleteThere ya go, making me smile.
DeleteSandra Cox: I hope today's post will also make you smile.
DeleteLovely to see the shades of Autumn colour in your photographs.
ReplyDeleteI have so enjoyed the teddy bear trail … it's been amazing.
Happy May Wishes and I hope you are having a good week.
All the best Jan
Lowcarb team member ~Jan: Thank you. I am heading out early on a different route and hope to see more colour (and more bears).
DeleteI loved the spring colours in your post today. Stay safe, stay well.
Beautiful photos, Elephant's Child.
ReplyDeleteIce crystals on a dandelion? Quelle horreur!
Sandi: Thank you. After the long and burning hot (literally and metaphorically) summer we had, ice crystals are more than welcome.
DeleteCiao Fely, buon mercoledi.
ReplyDeleteGiancarlo: Thank you - and to you (though our Wednesday is on its way out).
DeleteLovely autumnal shots
ReplyDeleteLady Fi: It is a beautiful time of year isn't it?
DeleteAs a Canadian I heartily approve of the Canadian critters!
ReplyDeleteLove the flowers and sky pics too!
Jemi Fraser: I thought that you and my other Canadian readers would like them. As I did.
DeleteAll so beautiful! But those ice crystals were spectacular.
ReplyDeletecleemckenzie: I do love the frigid beauty of the cooler months.
DeleteThanks for taking us along with you on your walk. :)
ReplyDeleteI love that rainbow sign. It's something I'd kinda expect to see at your house...
My very favorite shot here is of the ice crystals clinging to the dandelion tufts. It's just beautiful!
Take care, sweet lady.
Susan: Many thanks. I can't take any credit for the rainbow sign - but loved it. I will walk past it again shortly and will smile again.
DeleteFrom those two sky pictures, it looks like the clouds darkened as you walked.
ReplyDeleteSandra Cox: It was very windy and the clouds scudded across the sky. Light, to dark, light to dark...
Manuel: Thank you so much. I hope that your Spring is bright and beautiful - and that the virus leaves. Leaves the world.
DeleteYou are right. The words for wednesday prompts are at Lee's blog this month - and I am sure she will welcome you. The link to her blog is on my where are the word's post.
Thanks for such a beautiful post EC! For sure a Canadian connection with the moose and beaver! LOL! The last photo is stunning! WOW! You should make a book with your pictures! We have been having high winds too and snow should be coming tomorrow??? Big Hugs!
ReplyDeleteMagic Love Crow: I hope your snow was short-lived. We are going to have a frost today, followed by a sunny day.
DeleteHugs. Always.
