Sunday Selections #479

Sunday Selections was originally brought to us by Kim, of Frogpondsrock, as an ongoing meme where participants could post previously unused photos languishing in their files.

Huge thanks to Cie who gave me this wonderful Sunday Selections image.

The meme was then continued by River at Drifting through life.  Sadly she has now stepped aside (though she will join us some weeks), and I have accepted the mantle.

The rules are so simple as to be almost non-existent.  Post some photos under the title Sunday Selections and link back to me. Clicking on any of the photos will make them embiggen.

I usually run with a theme. We had some blissful rain this week.  Pain and insomnia often get me up early.  On Friday I was looking outside just after first light and saw that autumnal colours were starting to 'pop'.

It wasn't raining so I thought I would improve the shining hour and walk the block, and continue the 'Teddy Bear Trail'.  So, as I so often say, come walk with me...

These bears and the moose and the otter in the next shots were sodden - but still out there doing their smile producing job.

I detect a Canadian connection here...

It wasn't raining when I started walking but it was windy and a tad chilly.  Before I got home again I had been rained on and sleeted on but I was smiling.

The rainbow sign - which I loved and the tired  and shy bears/puppies were all in the same house.

It might be Autumn, but parts of the garden are a tad confused.  Dandelions bloom all year round, but the anenomes and the paper white jonquils should not be blooming for months...  I hope that all of you find joy and colour in your week.  Stay well, stay safe.

And yes, I think those are ice crystals on the dandelion.

  1. A lovely walk you took us on around your neighborhood, thank you so much! All your photos were a delight for the eyes. Loved the plush animals and that sign, gorgeous flowers and plants. To you and everyone out there, stay safe and fill your hearts with hope that float.

  6. Smiles here, too, after joining you on that leisurely stroll. I'm glad I went along with you...and that you invited me to do so! :)

Keep warm, EC...and dry. I've noted on the weather reports how much the temperatures have dropped down your way. Cooler weather up here, too...but not as chilly as you're experiencing, of course. Take good care...have yourself a safe and healthy week...rug up! Cuddles to Jazz. Remy and Shama send their miaows! :)

  8. Thanks for passing Spring round to me. How cold does it get in your part of Australia in winter? Ice in Australia always surprises me.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Andrew R. Scott: We are in one of the colder areas of Australia. Winter minimums are usually in the minus range (somewhere between -3 and -8) and maximums in winter can often be measured with a single digit.
That said we also usually have sunshine which takes the edge from the cold. And as a bonus, when temperatures dip to -7 or or -8, I will be out in in blowing bubbles and freezing them. Mad woman with camera will certainly be involved.

  11. Yay the the Canadian Beaver on your walk. It's a good thing he's tied to the tree otherwise he would chop it down, lol.
Autumn colors are always so spectacular band your photos are beautiful but I'm in no rush for Autumn yet as I'm waiting for warmer temperature and some blooms. Everything is still looking a bit gloomy but it won't be long.

    Stay well and happy.

    1. Julia: I don't think the beaver could chop down the aluminium light pole - but perhaps he has special powers. It was lovely to see him though (and for some reason I am sure he is male). You can keep the warmer weather and I hope you do get sunshine and blooms soon.

  14. I've just come in from a lovely walk in the rain - no wind, just well-behaved and mostly light showers, and not at all cold. I love your beautiful leaves, and the teddies and their friends, especially the moose. My Zygocactus plants are all blooming furiously, so they're confused too (although calling them Christmas cactus in the Southern Hemisphere,as some people do, is just daft).
I hope you have a great week, EC, and that the weather is kind to you.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Alexia: It is definitely cooling down here (and some like my partner claim it is cold). Our zygocactus have had the odd bloom but they DO flower best around Christmas. I am very glad you enjoyed your walk, and hope your week is lovely.

      Delete
    2. Do they really? mine have always flowered in mid-winter! I take back my 'daft' comment.

      Delete
    3. Alexia: They do. However our Orchid cactus (Epiphyllum Cacti) which I have heard called Christmas Cactus may or may not flower at that time. Nature seems to have her own rules.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Joanne: Yay indeed, but they 'should' be blooming in your garden not mine. There will be another anemone out today. I don't think the beaver was taking a poo, though if I had been tied to a pole in the wind and rain I would be pissed off at a minimum.

  17. I really love the soft toys, especially the beaver.
I would be delighted to display some here but we're in a cul de sac nobody walks down and honestly, the place is such a forest the windows are all but invisible.

    1. kylie: The beaver is special isn't he? I do hope that his sojourn in the wet doesn't ruin him. It is difficult to see most of our windows on the front of the house too. We are however seeing more people walking the street than I can remember.

  18. Beautiful autumn colours coming into your blog. Its heart warming when communities come together and show support with a theme, be it teddy bears or any soft toy. I am in Malaysia and we have been in partial lock down for 45 days already. Will be allowed to walk out starting only tomorrow.

    ReplyDelete

    1. kestrel: Welcome and thank you (I love your blog name and photo). Our lockdown has been fairly soft - we have always been able to go out for a walk so long as we keep our distance from others. I hope you enjoy your relative freedom.

    1. Strayer: Mostly we are behaving better as a community than we usually do. Mostly. With luck it will become a habit.

  29. You know that sign reminds me that it is so true that we are all in this together. It gives me a perverse sort of comfort knowing that whatever is affecting us due to this virus is similarly influencing the lives of others all around the world. There is a sort of solidarity in that. Perhaps this will help to move humanity towards a greater acceptance of our differences; enjoyment and appreciation of them in fact, and help us move towards what joins us together, and focus less on the superficial differences that have done so much to tear us apart. Stay well, stay safe, Sue. We all need your wisdom.

    1. David M. Gascoigne: We are indeed all in this together. It wasn't the way I had hoped to see world unity, but I do hope that we can continue to focus on the important things and dismiss the trivialities of colour, religion, race. I also hope that the natural world (which has benefited from our absence) is more respected and cherished. And yes, I am a dreamer.
I hope that you and Miriam are also able to stay well, stay safe, and to continue to find the beauty in life.

  49. Your autumn colours are starting to show. My mother always called them "autumn tints". That frosty dandelion is lovely. Actually I like dandelions, they are such a sunny colour, but they are definitely treated as a noxious weed that had to be eradicated. Too bad as I think they are very pretty.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Shammickite: I think your mother was understating it - in the very best autumns those colours blaze. A short-lived fiery beauty which I think of as arboreal fireworks.
