Sunday Selections #781

Sunday Selections was originally brought to us by Kim, of Frogpondsrock, as an ongoing meme where participants could post previously unused photos languishing in their files. Huge thanks to Cie who gave me this wonderful Sunday Selections image.

The meme was then continued by River at Drifting through life.  Sadly she has now stepped aside (though she will join us some weeks), and I have accepted the mantle.

The rules are so simple as to be almost non-existent.  Post some photos under the title Sunday Selections and link back to me. Clicking on any of the photos will make them embiggen.

I usually run with a theme. This week is a bit same old, same old.  I am an early riser and at my best, such as it is, in the early morning.  Our currently frosty early mornings.  I know that many of you are struggling in oppressive heat and hope these cool weather photos cool you down.

They haven't been hard frosts - it is nowhere near cold enough to freeze bubbles, but the frosts are definitely a happening thing.

I mentioned last week that there is always something in bloom.  The following cymbidium orchid blooming on my veranda surprised me - but it is welcome anyway.

In a week or two I hope to post photos from a much more exciting excursion.

Have a wonderful week.

  1. River Fairchild - The coolness of your photos is definitely a welcome sight as we are too hot, too soon. It bodes ill for the rest of the summer here.
That is an exquisite moon shot! And the unexpected blooms are always a thing of beauty.
I’m glad you’re in your cool season again. May it last a long time for you.
Take care of yourself and I’m sending hugs your way, my sister across the sea.

    1. River Fairchild: I have been watching the temperatures on your side of the world in horror. And hoping that you get some relief. The orchid is a beauty and has more buds that are nearly out. Huge hugs and much love.

    1. DUTA: There is no virtue in my early rising. My eyes roll back and that is it for a while. It was a grey start to the day today but there was still serenity and beauty. The orchid is a beauty isn't it?

  3. What beautiful gentle dawn photos.
And the moon is just stunning.
I hope there are at least a couple of mornings cold enough to freeze bubbles.
    Have a good week!

    1. kylie: Despite the weather talking about a cold snap we didn't even have a frost this morning. It isn't precisely warm, but much warmer than I expect at this time of year. Fingers crossed on the bubbles front - and you have a great week too.

  5. Dear EC
You do see some wonderful sunrises and sunsets. I hope you can do your thing with the frost bubbles at some point. The orchid is lovely.
Have a gentle and calm week

  7. Hey there, EC. I admit freely I'm not an early riser these mornings. I like snuggling up in bed, and really need a crane to lift the blankets off me, to allow me to rise! The host of puzzles surrounding me, help with my delay in rising, too! :)

I hope the week ahead treats you gently, EC...take good care. My cuddles to Batty and Odie.

    1. Lee: Himself doesn't get up early either. And is often joined by Batty. I hope your week is gentle too.

  8. What a spectacular shot of the full moon. Some day, I hope to be able to take such a great photo of the moon. Enjoy the coolness. Here our temperature is still fluctuating and it rains often. Some days are very hot and others are even cold in the morning but I can't complain.

Take care and enjoy the cooler temperatures.
    Hugs,
    Julia

    1. Julia: It was too cloudy to even attempt a photo on the night of the full moon but I got lucky the following morning. Moon shots are tricky aren't they? Enjoy your rain - we could do with some.

  12. Lovely moon there EC. The frost, oh yes crunchy under foot, we haven't had that many and if so only light ones at our house.
Lovely colour sky and a beautiful orchid.

    1. Margaret D: We have had lots fewer crunchy frosts this year. Some cool days, but less frost. Sigh.

  14. Our weather is fine, but I truly enjoyed your pictures nonetheless. Oh yes--- My mystery picture was meant to be tongue-in-cheek. I loved the relationship between the building (a hotel) and the mountain. A lot of other stuff was removed by my magic paintbrush. Stay warm...

  19. The moon is so yellow! The orchid looks like the type I carried for my wedding (mum's choice). I don't think I will ever see another frost where I live.

    1. River: I was amazed at how yellow the moon was too. And am hoping for harder frosts to come. Do I detect that you don't really like that type of orchid?

  22. I love that view of the rime on your lawn beautifully captured going off into the distance.
And that brave beautiful orchid. I am looking at mine at the moment hoping it will bloom again, it seems to be every 6 months. It's my first orchid ever so I called her Aurora.

  23. Hello and happy afternoon to you, what a great moon capture, another perk of being an early riser. We've had a bit more rain and of course flooding, and some heat, but it's to be expected since we had very little snow this last winter which is lovely with me. Enjoy your lovely world and have a wonderful joyful week ahead. Take care.

Such a good looking moon and I like your frosty pictures too.

We've actually had some cooler days recently and I believe they had rain at Wimbledon! Perhaps it will be soup instead of the traditional strawberries! (No, I don't think so!)
